I don’t recommend saving money by relying on free WiFi for communications when you travel.

For about €30, you can get a month of phone and data service in Europe.  There are several options, but without getting into the details, choose one of them.  Every time people “save money” when they visit, some problem happens that would have been easily avoided through the use of a phone.

Consequences have ranged from a missed lunch to cold and miserable people sitting in a shelter waiting for a boat that would never come. Fortunately, nothing serious has yet happened because people lacked the ability to communicate, but that’s a possibility.
